My main passion is to tell stories. Through writing, directing, and acting in my own short films and clients’, I have managed to tell personal stories; as well as those inspired by real world events and history.
Recently, I have begun to expand my reach of storytelling through the art of Imagineering – having been inspired by the works of Imagineers at Disneyland Paris and across the globe, I channel this inspiration into my own creations and share them via social media.
I LOVE FILM
Films are a universal method of communication, which provoke people’s imagination and unite them in perception and emotions. Messages can be either subtly or vividly portrayed, whilst inviting viewers to occupy different worlds and experiences that they would never usually be able to be part of. Hence, films provide a medium of powerful, provoking yet entertaining communication.
It's beyond a form of escapism. I won't just sink myself into a film in order to escape the harshness of reality, but allow myself to be molded by it. 'Swiss Army Man' taught me to express myself how I want, 'The Dark Knight' taught me to believe in hope, and 'Jaws' taught me to never go back in the water...
Since I was young, films and stories have been a passion of mine; from making short family films, animations, sitting in a director’s chair in a Hollywood studio at the age of ten through to my interest and appreciation developing to include the deeper analysis of the connotations of films. The power of film is having the ability to say what you want to say and hopefully someone, somewhere, will listen.
Film is more than entertainment, it is more than art. Film is expressionism.
When I was seven years old, my grandparents took me to the cinema to see Peter Jackson's King Kong. They were skeptical about taking me due to it's 12 age rated classification by the BBFC, and thought I would be too scared - little did they know that a spark had gone off in my head. I was in awe and amazement - curious as to how such miracles were achieved in front of my eyes. This begun my love for the art of filmmaking and my curiosity only grew over the years.
I attended Havant Sixth Form College and gained knowledge about media and the industry through the subjects of Film Studies, Media Studies, Drama and Theatre Studies, and Graphics.
I have gained experience through collaborating with local production companies including Millstream Productions (Pompey's Punks, War on the Waves) taking on the roles of Assistant Director, Editor, and Radio Interviewer for projects.
I also attended a course at Brighton Film School in association with the BFI Film Academy where I helped produce two short films (Blame, The Phone Call)
Now I am currently studying Film Production at the University of Portsmouth. During my first year I have already collaborated with Island City Stories and a local institute to produce a 60 second info film about their research, as well as creating a five minute experimental short film recounting one of my classmates immigration from Brazil, and have learnt the editing software AVID.
During my second year I will be focusing my studies on Directing, editing in Workflow and Post-Production, working with more clients in External Live Brief, Fiction and Non-Fiction Filmmaking and Screenwriting. I will also be looking ahead to my third year where I hope to find a placement working with a production company.
I also have my own YouTube personality with a presence on Twitter known as ImagineerNik - with a strong focus on all things Disney including movies, TV shows and the parks. In January 2018, I began collaborating and co-hosting a Disney themed podcast known as The Galactic Bulletin, which is available to watch and listen on YouTube and iTunes.
Since my dreams of being a film director as a seven year old, my experiences and knowledge has only expanded - as well as the presence of film and storytelling all around us due to advancements of technology and streaming services such as Netflix.
My fascination for storytelling has only grown.
Ultimately, my dream would be to work for The Walt Disney Company due it's large presence in my own life as well as the company's expansive media reach. To achieve this, I intended to work to best of my ability on my degree as well as expanding my internet presence over the forthcoming years.
My ideas, stories, and dreams have begun to take shape on paper - but now it's time for them to take form in reality.
